Devlog #4 – First Look at Lighting + UI


Hi everyone,

This week I made a big step forward in Kukata: Word of Ghosts! I finally combined the toilet tileset, Unity’s 2D lighting system, and a simple UI into one playable scene.

🔦 What’s New:

  • Tileset implemented in Unity’s Tilemap

  • 2D Lighting for atmosphere (focused flashlight beam)

  • UI elements (player portrait, health, stamina)

This is one of the first environments players will explore: the school bathroom — a place where ghosts lurk, and the light is your only comfort. I want the darkness to feel suffocating, while the flashlight creates tension by only revealing small portions of the map.

🎯 Feedback I’d Love:

  • Does the lighting feel scary enough?

  • Is the UI too simple, or just right for now?

  • Any suggestions to make the atmosphere stronger?
